More from P600

Somewhat brighter today in SRF. Still experimenting with the P600 "birding scene mode".

 Chinese Pond Heron นกยางกรอกพันธุ์จีน

 Common Koel นกกาเหว่า

In the next two pics, I experimented P600 "Moon shot mode" to shoot these birds. The camera made a zoom to 1440 mm with one touch and it took a little more time to stabilize picture. It seems to me that the images are very sharp. Will try more.

White Fantail Pigeons

Luck fell on me from the first day out birding with my new P600. In Queen's Park adjacent to SRF experimenting with my gear, taking shots of what looked like a group of white pigeons. A few days later I found them again and noticed that they really were White Fantail Pigeons, one of them with crest.

There is a gold ring on one leg.

More pics from P600

Sunday October 26, 2014.
Phutthamonthon พุทธมณฑล today I managed to get a good glimpse of a Greater Racket-tailed Drongo นกแซงแซวหางบ่วงใหญ่, a common resident on a muntingia tree ต้นตะขบ, after which came a heavy rain. Weather man says it would rain for at least two more days. Another good shot with P600 in birding mode.

More P600 sample pics

Migrants were calling, so I took my new P600 out to get acquainted. Here are more pics at SRF (สวนรถไฟ) in Bangkok. Had been using SX50HS in birding for one full year, I hope this information will be useful to those interested in birding with super-zoom (aka bridge camera) from the two giants.

It was about to rain and quite dark when I encountered this Black-capped Kingfisher นกกระเต็นหัวดำ

Then came a heavy down pour and I had to stay within a pavilion, which happened to be the home of these one-month kittens.

It was almost dusk when the rain stop, but the last few drops of the sun were so wonderful.

The next day was more vibrant and I got few more pics.

The Stork-billed Kingfisher นกกระเต็นใหญ่ was 100 meters away, these pics were taken at full digital zoom.

Nikon P600

My Canon SX50HS got a cold after it was soaked in the rain from 2014 last typhoon in September. No cure. SX60 is on the way with many curious reviews that its image quality (IQ) is not as expected, even one from Lilian Stoke, a birding author whose last year review of SX50 I followed. So I searched over and over more and end up with Nikon P600.
Here are samples taken in the first few days at SRF park in Bangkok. A White-breasted Waterhen, a Streaked-ear Bulbul, a Chinese Pond Heron, a Pied Fantail, a Prairie Dog, a Striped Squirrel and some White Homing Pigeons. More to come.
Interestingly, P600 got a birding mode, which is unique in the market.
